On Thursday Easton got his first prosthesis! We were so excited to get it... and quite pleased with the way it turned out. We weren't exactly sure how it all worked, we just new it had to be some kind of fabric, so hopefully we will have some even cooler legs to come.
Here is a little play-by-play of how the leg works. First we put on the blue silicone liner. This is kind of like wetsuit material. You can see from the picture you have to roll it on. This is what holds the leg and foot on. Next comes the Prosthetic sock. The socks range in thickness and can be mixed-and-matched to make just the right thickness to ensure the proper fit of the prosthesis. Lastly, the leg itself. The Leg was shaped to Easton's and is made of fiberglass, similar to that used for canoe's. The foot is just a generic foot, but it actually has little toes and everything. Sadie just kept tickling it, wondering why Easton wasn't laughing. The foot is made of the stuff that is on crutches, the part that goes under your arm. Because Easton is crawling we have to use a velcro strap to help hold the foot on. As you can see the strap is on the bottom of the liner, then we fish it through a small hole in the bottom of the legand run it through a buckle on the top of the leg and then just velcro it down. Right now it takes a little while to get the entire business done... plus a sock and shoe, but I'm sure I'll be doing it in seconds in a month or two!

As for using it....For the most part Easton just pulls it around with him. He hasn't really been putting weight on it, but we think that is because it hurts with the pin in. We are hoping once that is taken out he will be off and running!
