Amazing...

Easton had his surgery on Tuesday to remove the cyst in his mouth and put tubes in his ears. We checked in at 7:30 and they took us back at about 8:15 to get him ready. They checked his vitals and he got shy with all the nurses around. We asked for a sedative to calm him down before they took him back. We later found out they doubled the dosage because of his size and strength. Then at 8:55 we put him in a wagon and pulled him down to the surgery area where they took him. He looked up just before he went around the corner and saw Andy and started to scream which made it so much harder. His surgery lasted 45 minutes and he went into the recovery area. Dr. Muntz came out and explained that the cyst had grown from the size of his pinkie nail at the time of the MRI, to the size of his thumbnail. He said they basically cut and scrape a hole in the top of his mouth to get everything out. They called me back about 20 minutes later and when I got back there he had 3 ladies and 1 guy around him trying to hold him down. Once he saw me he calmed down and after some rocking and singing and consoling he was back to sleep. The nurse said she was sorry because they usually don't call the parents back until they get the patients all calmed down and cleaned up. But Easton was so upset that they couldn't get him to calm down. In some ways it was harder emotionally than his amputation, because it was very hard to see him so scared and bleeding so badly from his mouth. The nurse thought Easton was three or four, because he was so strong. She said, "I tried to hold him to calm him down... but he is one strong boy!" When they called Andy back, he was asleep in my arms. He later woke up and downed 2 glasses of Apple Juice.
He recovered really well and we were home by 1:00. We weaned him of the Loratab the same day and he took some Tylenol twice the next day. He is all back to normal now except for he isn't eating quite as well as normal....
My boy continues to amaze me... a couple hours after we brought him home from the hospital he was playing and doing somersaults on the floor..... He really is such a tough kid!

Warning.... I did post a pic of Easton's mouth below... it is a little gross, so you may want to skip ahead....
