Easton update

Easton is doing great. Here he is unwrapping his bandage. Isn't he a little helper?! We took Easton in for an appt. on Tuesday. The doctor said that his leg is healing great, but the pin that was in the bottom of his leg, (the one we couldn't find) is in his leg. After the surgery his leg swelled and pulled the pin into his leg. So.... we have to go in for surgery on the 5th of February to have the pin taken out. It will just be outpatient surgery, they will go in with a scope and just pull out the pin. The Dr. said he will only have to put a couple of stitches in and he will use the dissolving ones, so it shouldn't be too bad.

After his appt. with the Dr. we had our first appt. with he prosthesis lab. They gave us this Silicone liner, which Easton will wear underneath his prosthesis. This is what will hold the prosthesis onto his leg. It feels kind of like wetsuit material. It goes up to his mid-thigh right now, but I think they will trim it down once he gets his prosthesis.
They took a mold of his leg and know we will go back in on Mon. or Tues. to try it on. They have to make sure it fits right and doesn't pinch him anywhere. They said we will probably be there about 2 hours so they can watch Easton playing and moving around with his foot attached to the "draft." Then if all goes well, we give them the material we want for his leg design and wait until they call to tell us its done. Hopefully Easton will have his leg in a couple of weeks! We are really anxious ot get it, because Easton is up and ready to be moving! We are so thankful for the Shriner's Hospital and the wonderful care Easton is receiving!

What a trooper He is! Nothing will stop him from getting around. Pin or no pin! (Obviously) Why did they put it in, in the first place? I will check in later for more blogs! :) Love you!

The pin was there to make sure his heel pad stayed in place. I guess they have problems with the heel pad moving up the leg.

Wow - what a little trooper! This is so facinating and we are so blessed to live in a time when this is all so possible. Watch out - little Easton is on the move!
